| dc.description.abstractother1 | This research is linked to the Doctorate in Education course of the Graduate Program in Education at the State University of Londrina, aligned with research line 2, entitled “Teaching Knowledge and Practices,” in core I “Teacher Training.” It is also linked to the Study and Research Groups “Curriculum, training, and teaching work.” The objective was to understand, through teachers' perceptions, whether Literary Reading practices are being developed in Early Childhood Education and whether, through these practices, issues of Diversity have been discussed with children. Based on a qualitative approach, the research was developed through field and bibliographic research. Guided by critical-dialectical assumptions, the discussions were oriented by the principles of Historical-Cultural Theory. Data were collected through interviews with early childhood education teachers in the municipality of Londrina, Paraná, who are members of their institutions' Diversity Commission. Data processing and analysis were based on the theoretical precepts of Discourse Analysis. The research defended the thesis that diversity is an extremely important human condition for society, due to the cultural, historical, and social production of the groups that compose it and also because it engenders social relations that allow us to reflect on inequalities and question notions such as social justice and human rights. He also argued that the topic should be discussed with children in early childhood education, considering the stages of child development and the comprehension abilities related to the age group and their specific psychological functions. Furthermore, considering the context of early childhood education, he also argued that literary reading, as a direct source of human production, is a pedagogical teaching resource that, par excellence, can favor the approach to issues of diversity with children. Among the main results obtained, we highlight that the absence of discussions on Diversity in teacher training courses compromised the appropriation of concepts and pedagogical practice, as teachers revealed that their initial training did not provide them with the theoretical and methodological basis to address the topic in the classroom. Furthermore, it was also found that literary reading has been used in the pedagogical work developed in early childhood education to address the theme, but in some practices, the utilitarian use of this reading is noticeable, which distances it from its function as a social practice. It was also found, through the analysis of the works mentioned, that the theme of ethnic-racial relations has been prioritized over others, which reflects a fragmentation of the general concept, which has not been developed in its full dimension. It was also found that, although the municipality's initiative regarding the educational proposal for working with the theme was considered positive, the continuing education offered for this purpose was insufficient, as it was carried out infrequently and shared time with other activities. It is also noteworthy that discussions on gender are completely excluded from both practices and conceptual training, which indicates a social denial of the theme, a factor that engenders social inequalities and therefore needs to be rethought within the proposed approach to diversity. | |
