| dc.description.abstractother1 | HIV remains a major global public health problem, especially in Africa. In Angola, the prevalence among adults is approximately 1.6%, which corresponds to about 370,000 people living with HIV. In 2024, there were approximately 21,000 new infections and 13,000 AIDS-related deaths. In this context, the need to systematize the knowledge produced on HIV/AIDS in Angola becomes evident. National scientific production is still scarce, fragmented, and often difficult to access, which hinders the identification of epidemiological trends, the evaluation of the effectiveness of interventions, and the formulation of evidence-based public policies. The objective of this study was to synthesize the knowledge related to HIV/AIDS in Angola from 2015 to 2024. An integrative literature review was conducted. The review was carried out in sequential steps: (1) identification of the theme and selection of the hypothesis or research question for the elaboration of the integrative review; (2) establishment of criteria for inclusion and exclusion of studies/sampling or literature search; (3) definition of the information to be extracted from the selected studies/category of the studies; (4) evaluation of the studies included in the integrative review; (5) interpretation of the results; and (6) presentation of the review/synthesis of knowledge. The construction of the research question was based on the PCC (Population, Concept and Context) strategy, and the question formulated was: What are the main findings published between 2015 and 2024 on HIV/AIDS in Angola? Thus, complete original articles published over a ten-year period (2015-2024) that addressed HIV/AIDS in the Angolan context were included. The bibliographic survey was conducted in May 2025 through virtual access to the CINAHL, Scopus, Embase, Medline, PubMed, and LILACS databases. The following combination of descriptors from the Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS) and Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) was used, interspersed with the Boolean operators “AND” and “OR”: “HIV OR AIDS AND Angola”. Articles were selected by reading the titles and abstracts by two authors and subsequently compared to ensure the validation of the procedure. Twenty articles were included. Regarding the affiliation of the first authors of the articles, nine were affiliated with Angolan institutions and 11 with institutions from other countries (six from Portugal, three from Italy, and two from Brazil). Seven studies reported having some type of funding. Regarding the scope of the studies, in relation to the sample, it was observed that 14 had local scope (generally from a municipality or province) and six had national scope. Of the locally focused studies, 9 were conducted in the province of Luanda, where the country's capital is located, and only two other provinces, out of the 21 existing ones, also presented studies. The majority of studies (n=15) included both sexes. Regarding sample size, five studies investigated more than 500 subjects, the same number as samples of 1 to 50 subjects. In relation to age range, eleven studies included only adults, four included adolescents and adults, and three included children. Seven studies were cross-sectional, four were retrospective observational, three were interventional, two were molecular, and one study each was found with these designs: systematic review, qualitative, validation, and time series study. 15 studies had a quantitative approach, two a qualitative approach, and two a mixed approach. The most investigated themes were: Genetic diversity and drug resistance (n=6), intervention strategies (n=3), and vertical transmission (n=3). In summary, HIV/AIDS research in Angola is in a consolidation phase, with advances in productivity, but still requires methodological diversification and geographical decentralization. | |
