dc.description.abstractIntrodução: Os cuidados paliativos neonatais constituem um tema recente, que tem ganhado destaque e se desenvolvido gradativamente. Com as mudanças socioculturais, o papel paterno transcende a função de provedor, tornando-se uma figura indispensável no cuidado ao filho. Nesse contexto, é fundamental discutir a paternidade e o papel do pai, assim como as experiências paternas no cuidados paliativos ao filho internado em Unidade de Terapia Intensiva Neonatal. Objetivo: Compreender as experiências paternas no contexto do filho recém-nascido elegível para cuidados paliativos. Método: Realizou o estudo em três etapas. A primeira consistiu na elaboração de um protocolo de revisão de escopo, conforme o método proposto pelo Joanna Briggs Institute e as diretrizes do Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews. A segunda etapa, envolveu a construção da revisão de escopo, para descrever estudos sobre a participação do pai no cuidado ao filho com doença grave. Foram realizadas buscas em nove bases de dados, nos idiomas português e inglês, sem limite temporal, durante o mês de outubro de 2023. A terceira etapa correspondeu a um estudo qualitativo, conduzido pelo roteiro Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative Research e orientado, respectivamente, pelos referenciais metodológico e teórico: Teoria Fundamentada nos Dados e Interacionismo Simbólico. A coleta de dados transcorreu entre maio de 2023 e junho de 2024. Participaram do estudo sete pais de recém-nascidos elegíveis para cuidados paliativos, hospitalizados em uma Unidade de Terapia Intensiva Neonatal de um hospital universitário localizado no norte do Paraná. Resultados: O protocolo elaborado viabilizou a sistematização da condução da revisão de escopo, garantindo reprodutibilidade e rigor metodológico. A revisão de escopo permitiu o mapeamento de 961 estudos, dos quais 38 foram incluídos. A análise desses estudos revelou que a participação paterna no cuidado ao filho com doença grave envolve benefícios para o filho, para a mãe e para a família; formas de cuidado paterno; o papel social do pai; impactos psicoemocionais, socioeconômicos e familiares; bem como de barreiras de gênero e socioculturais relacionadas à figura paterna. O estudo qualitativo possibilitou extrair as categorias e as relações teóricas estabelecidas que levaram ao desenvolvimento de cinco categorias: 1. Desejando exercer a tão sonhada paternidade; 2. Descobrindo formas de cuidado e papel paterno; 3. Deparando-se com limitações para o exercício da paternidade; 4. Experienciando prejuízo psicoemocional, conjugal e financeiro; 5. Superando a elegibilidade do filho para cuidados paliativos. Do realinhamento dos componentes dessas categorias emergiu a categoria central e o modelo teórico que os integra, denominado: Movendo-se entre o desejo e a decisão de exercer a tão sonhada paternidade: superando as barreiras impostas pelo paliativismo do filho recém-nascido e ressignificando sua parentalidade. Considerações Finais: No contexto dos cuidados paliativos neonatais, a paternidade é permeada por sofrimento, desafios e ressignificação. Mesmo diante de barreiras socioculturais, emocionais e financeiras, o pai busca exercer seu papel por meio de formas de cuidado extra hospitalar e demonstrações de afeto ao filho. Na fé, no apoio de profissionais, da companheira e da família, encontra suporte para superar adversidades e vivenciar uma paternidade significativa
dc.description.abstractother1Introduction: Neonatal palliative care is a recent topic that has gained prominence and gradually developed. With sociocultural changes, the paternal role transcends the role of provider, becoming an indispensable figure in child care. In this context, it is essential to discuss paternity and the role of the father, as well as paternal experiences in palliative care for children admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Objective: To understand paternal experiences in the context of newborns eligible for palliative care. Method: The study was conducted in three stages. The first consisted of developing a scoping review protocol, following the method proposed by the Joanna Briggs Institute and the guidelines of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews. The second stage involved constructing a scoping review to describe studies on fathers' participation in the care of their child with a serious illness. Searches were conducted in nine databases, in Portuguese and English, without a time limit, during the month of October 2023. The third stage consisted of a qualitative study, conducted according to the Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative Research and guided, respectively, by the methodological and theoretical frameworks: Grounded Theory and Symbolic Interactionism. Data collection took place between May 2023 and June 2024. Seven parents of newborns eligible for palliative care, hospitalized in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of a university hospital located in northern Paraná, participated in the study. Results: The developed protocol enabled the systematization of the scoping review, ensuring reproducibility and methodological rigor. The scoping review allowed the mapping of 961 studies, of which 38 were included. Analysis of these studies revealed that paternal participation in the care of a child with a serious illness involves benefits for the child, the mother, and the family; forms of paternal care; the father's social role; psychoemotional, socioeconomic, and family impacts; as well as gender and sociocultural barriers related to the father figure. The qualitative study allowed the extraction of categories and established theoretical relationships that led to the development of five categories: 1. Desiring to exercise the long-awaited fatherhood; 2. Discovering forms of care and paternal role; 3. Encountering limitations in exercising fatherhood; 4. Experiencing psychoemotional, marital, and financial harm; 5. Overcoming the child's eligibility for palliative care. From the realignment of the components of these categories emerged the central category and the theoretical model that integrates them, called: Moving between the desire and the decision to exercise the long-awaited fatherhood: overcoming the barriers imposed by the palliative care of the newborn child and redefining their parenthood. Final Considerations: In the context of neonatal palliative care, fatherhood is permeated by suffering, challenges, and redefinition. Even when faced with sociocultural, emotional, and financial barriers, fathers seek to fulfill their role through out-of-hospital care and displays of affection for their children. Through faith, the support of professionals, their partners, and family, they find support to overcome adversity and experience meaningful fatherhood
