dc.description.abstractother1Abstract: Genetically modified (GM) plants expressing genes with insecticidal activity, represent a more environmentally safe option for the control of insects- pest However, several questions arise as to this strategy, particularly regarding the impact on non-target organisms Thus, aimed to evaluate populations of arthropod predators and pests in crop fields with succession soybean-corn, including the use of genetically modified plants Experiments were evaluated in both years, in which treatments were composed by the combination of three soybean genotypes (cultivar BRS284 and its derived lines RR and Bt RR2) grown in a crop with two corn hybrids (one Bt and other non- Bt) grown in the second season, making six treatments in which there was pest control only when it reached the level of control In treating a seventh (T7) was used soybean line RR, followed by Bt In this treatment, pest management was carried out in a scheduled way The insects- plague were sampled weekly to beat cloth on soybean and corn was conducted evaluation of damage rating scale For collections of arthropod predators, we used traps "pitfall" both in soy in corn with fortnightly basis The results of the collections in soybeans and corn, with pitfall traps, showed greater abundance of Araneae orders, and Coleoptera, in two seasons There was especially spiders, often less than 68% For soybeans, among Coleoptera, Carabidae and Staphylinidae were more frequent, especially Notiobiachalcites and Scarites sp For maize, there was emphasis on Hemerobiidae and Staphylinidae families There was no differences in the two years between treatments for spiders, carabid and staphilinids In the evaluations by the beat of cloth, soybean, there was greater abundance to Lebia sp and Geocoris sp In a general analysis, both for corn as soybean, was not detected statistical differences between treatments on the distribution of arthropod predators, indicating that in the short term (two seasons), the natural enemies of maize and soybeans, are not affected by Bt technology The Bt RR2 soybean and Bt corn have confirmed their efficiency in the control of caterpillars, because they have genes cry1Ac and cry1Ab respectively Defoliating beetles and Euschistus heros showed high population density on Bt soybean, so attention should be given to these non-target organisms, which may increase with the adoption of this technology Either exception detected between treatments, with statistical difference, lacks consistency to transmit the inferences of cause and effect relationship, or even conclusions This can be explained by the peculiarities of each species, deserving studies of medium and long term, especially since the adoption of Bt soybean technology is still at an early stage in Brazilpt_BR
